ATHENS TUTORS is run by Nathan and Hope Vigil, a couple with more than 20 years combined experience as educators and youth counselors.
Nathan Vigil earned his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and his master’s degree and PhD from Emory University. Prior to founding Atlanta Tutors in 2005, Nathan worked as a youth counselor in California and St. Petersburg, Russia. He also taught writing and history at Georgia Tech, Emory University, UGA, and Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart.
Hope Vigil grew up in Atlanta and attended Tucker High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her master’s degree from California State University, Fullerton. Hope previously taught English to speakers of other languages at Georgia Christian University, and she worked for three years as an academic advisor for freshmen at UGA.
In 2012 Nathan and Hope were joined by Danielle Hawkins.
Danielle Hawkins received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Education from the University of Florida where she was the recipient of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship and completed Literacy Intervention Training. Prior to joining Atlanta Tutors, Danielle was a Lead Teacher at a Sylvan Learning Center and the Assistant Director of Kids Zone Learning Center. She also taught 3rd and 5th grade for four years in Cobb County.
Athens Tutors is a subsidiary of Atlanta Tutors, LLC, which is located in Atlanta, Georgia.
At Athens Tutors we carefully screen all of our tutors to ensure that they meet the highest standards of academic achievement, teaching ability, and personal character. All of our tutors either have college degrees from national universities or are exceptional upper level college students with outstanding academic records. Our test prep tutors have complete mastery of the tests that they teach, as evidenced by their high test scores, and all our subject tutors have outstanding grades and/or advanced degrees in the fields that they tutor. In addition, all of our tutors have substantial experience as teachers and tutors.
